Established in 1912, St. John Catholic Church in Strawn is a dynamic Catholic community with a rich immigrant past, strong historical roots and an enduring treasure of faith. Founded in 1912 as St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, but later rebuilt after a fire and then renamed St. John in 1930, this vibrant Catholic community in Strawn, Texas has a long immigrant heritage from Czechoslovakia, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Poland and Mexico, to name just a few. Although the coal mines and oil boom of years past are over, St. John Parish continues as it was founded: “To be a beacon to the faithful and a symbol of hope to the weary” (Strawn Advocate April 2013).
